SHELTER TO THE CORE: TWO UNIT HOUSE
This project was developed as a proposal for Columbus House, the homeless shelter institution in New Haven. Potential clients of this design have never known constant home stability. The house consists of two units: a family unit and a single unit. Both units spiral towards each other with their mirrored programs. See plans and axon below. The plan of each revolves around a respective core which houses the bathrooms but also the electric outlets, plumbing, and serves as a structure for kitchen cabinets, dining table, shelving, storage. In other words, the program revolves around the core that contains all that defines what shelter is.
